Ralph DLG Torres is upbeat about the recently launched Marianas Village Pride, a campaign that seeks to inspire students and residents to show pride in the village where they live by taking part in fun beautification activities.

Torres said Friday the Marianas Village Pride or MVP campaign of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors will promote accountability on environmental cleanliness and also enhance tourism.

“All of us here, wherever you grew up, whatever village, each and everyone of us have a pride in that village. And I think now is just one step closer and one step deeper into showcasing why you [love] where you grew up,” the governor said.

With the MPV campaign, a village can come up with different activities or art or anything that is significant for that village. Coming into the holidays, the governor said there will be some activities for the best village on Christmas lights or the best house with Christmas lights. He said the ultimate goal is to bring pride to each village.

Torres cited as an example Koblerville where he grew up. He said people in Koblerville are proud that they’re the cleanest village in the CNMI.

“Those are the type of the pride that we want each village to brag about, whether it’s about having the nicest art or the nicest building or most number of volunteers, the nicest pala pala on Beach Road, or the most product being shipped out or exported, or the nicest artifacts,” he said.

Saipan Mayor David Apatang earlier stated that village pride entails being proud of where a person comes from and showing that pride by beautifying homes, neighborhoods, streets, schools, community centers, parks, and attractions for the benefit for all residents.

Gov.
