Docomo Pacific, regional leader in innovation, telecommunications, and entertainment,\u00a0will not\u00a0be implementing the 10-digit dialing in the CNMI on Oct. 24, 2021, but plans to do so later.<\/p>\n
According to a Docomo Pacific news release yesterday, it said: The Federal Communications Commission has designated \u201c988\u201d as the service number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline effective July 16, 2022; similar to \u201c911\u201d for police, fire, or rescue emergencies. To make this possible, all area codes within the United States that have phone numbers beginning with \u201c988\u201d will now require the area code to be dialed first, followed by the local telephone number (for example: 671-988-XXXX). This will prevent calls to the National Suicide Lifeline from being automatically triggered and placed.<\/p>\n
Guam\u00a0is amongst 82 area codes that need to make this local call transition, however, the\u00a0CNMI is not included\u00a0on this list. As a result, starting Oct.24, 2021,\u00a0all local phone calls in Guam\u00a0must include the 671 area code. <\/p>\n
Docomo Pacific is evaluating dates for possible dialing alignment in CNMI and will ensure adequate time and communication with residential and business customers.
