{"id":356396,"date":"2021-11-24T06:02:28","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T20:02:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=356396"},"modified":"2021-11-24T06:02:28","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T20:02:28","slug":"search-suspended-for-missing-mariner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/search-suspended-for-missing-mariner\/","title":{"rendered":"Search suspended for missing mariner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SANTA RITA, Guam\u2014The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the active search for a missing mariner last seen aboard the Ming Maan Shiang No. 38\u00a0northeast of Guam, Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The mariner, believed to have fallen overboard, remains missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with the Navy and the crew of the Ming Maan Shiang No. 38, we conducted a total of 18 searches, over the course of 73 hours, covering over 5,345 square miles,\u201d said Lt. j. g. Deborah King, the operations unit controller at Joint-Rescue Sub-Center Guam. \u201cIt\u2019s never an easy decision to suspend a search and rescue case.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At 2:04pm Thursday,\u00a0Coast Guard Forces Micronesia | Sector Guam watchstanders received notification from Taipei Rescue Coordination Center of a missing crewmember from the fishing vessel Ming Maan Shiang 425 miles northeast of Guam.<\/p>\n<p>Upon notification, Sector Guam watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and deployed assets to search the area while also coordinating with local and federal partners.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Involved in the search were the crew of the Coast Guard cutter Oliver Henry; an Air Station Barbers Point C-130 Hercules aircrew; Coast Guard Forces Micronesia | Sector Guam watchstanders; Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center watchstanders; a Navy P-8 Poesiden aircrew; and the crew of the Ming Maan Shaiang No. 38.
