Sablan (D-Saipan) said Tuesday it\u2019s not confirmed that House Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez (Ind-Saipan) will be her running-mate as lieutenant governor under the NMI Democratic Party for the November 2022 gubernatorial election.<\/p>\n<p>In response to Saipan Tribune\u2019s inquiry about talks that Villagomez will be her running-mate, Sablan, who is the Democrats\u2019 candidate for governor, said she is still meeting with potential candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe process is ongoing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker said the Party\u2019s Search Committee continues to assist and provide valuable feedback.<\/p>\n<p>Villagomez himself told Saipan Tribune Tuesday that there has been no confirmation that he is Sablan\u2019s running-mate.<\/p>\n<p>Villagomez has been representing Precinct 3 in the House of Representatives since the 18th Legislature. He was the top vote-getter for Precinct 3 at the Nov. 3, 2021, general election.<\/p>\n<p>Last January, representatives elected Villagomez as speaker for the 22nd Legislature, ending the Republican Party\u2019s decades-old control of the House.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
