Tenorio, executive director of the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, urged yesterday for an investigation into a report from the Department of Corrections that convicted sex offender Patrick Mendiola Calvo was allowed to speak to students about staying out of prison. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking against Calvo\u2019s petition for parole, Tenorio said it\u2019s incredible that a convicted sex offender was allowed to have contact with children.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Saipan Tribune after the hearing, Tenorio said when the Board of Parole was reporting about Calvo\u2019s accomplishments in prison, one of the things that was reported was that he spoke to students about staying out of jail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so we were immediately shocked to hear that because Mr. Calvo is a sex offender,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio said Calvo should not be allowed in any way to perform community service near children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that he was allowed in a classroom to speak to students is very disturbing,\u201d she pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio said the matter should be investigated and addressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to figure out how this happened. If this is happening on an ongoing basis, who\u2019s making this decision,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio said Board of Parole chair Ramon B. Camacho noted that they will look into the matter with DOC Commissioner Ramon Mafnas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maisie N.
