This certification demonstrates the specialty knowledge of mother\/baby nurses in maternal postpartum assessment, management, education, and complications. It also validates their specialty knowledge of newborn assessment, management, transition, and complications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us here at the college congratulate Xiu and Joy and we wish them the best of luck as they continue to develop professionally,\u201d NMC president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<p>Rosa T. Aldan, NMC nursing department chair, said she and the entire nursing department of NMC are proud of Lizama and Waldo. Both of them currently work at the Obstetric\/Nursery Unit of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. as registered nurses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_357666\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-357666\" style=\"width: 138px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Joy-Anna-Marie-Waldo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-357666\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Joy-Anna-Marie-Waldo-138x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-357666\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joy Anna Marie Waldo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt is great to see our graduates pursuing advanced nursing degrees and national certifications to further their nursing practice and education,\u201d Aldan said.<\/p>\n<p>Waldo, a 2017 NMC nursing alumna, said it was her manager at CHCC who encouraged her to get certified.\u00a0 \u201cI decided to take the opportunity,\u201d Waldo said. \u201cThis certification enhanced my professional credibility and helped me demonstrate a higher level of clinical competence toward mothers, newborns, and gynecology patients here in the CNMI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waldo is now working toward a Masters in Nursing Informatics at Western Governors University and plans to start taking classes next year.<\/p>\n<p>Lizama, who graduated from NMC\u2019s nursing program in 2012, spent four months preparing for the examination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI decided to pursue this certification to provide higher quality nursing care in the maternal and newborn setting,\u201d Lizama said. \u201cI was encouraged by CHCC to take it as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information about NMC&#8217;s nursing program, email Aldan at\u00a0rosa.aldan@marianas.edu\u00a0or call 237-6744.
