{"id":358845,"date":"2022-01-03T06:05:12","date_gmt":"2022-01-02T20:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=358845"},"modified":"2022-01-03T06:05:12","modified_gmt":"2022-01-02T20:05:12","slug":"two-deaths-book-end-new-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/two-deaths-book-end-new-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Two deaths book-end new year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CNMI book-ended the transition from 2021 to 2022 on a grim note, recording its 14th death from COVID-19 on New Year\u2019s Day, Jan. 1, 2022, and its 13th death late Thursday night, Dec. 30.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the CNMI\u2019s case tally for positive cases has now surged to a total of 3,287, most of them recorded since Oct. 28, when the first community transmission cases were identified.<\/p>\n<p>The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. confirmed the CNMI\u2019s 14th death in a news release on Jan. 1, 2022, but did not disclose any further details. The 13th fatality was also affirmed in a late Thursday new release and also did not release much detail aside from saying that the victim was one of five patients who recently passed away. It said the patients tested positive for COVID-19 in December and were identified at CHCC. No further details will be disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, CHCC public information officer Guillermo Lifoifoi told Saipan Tribune yesterday that the CNMI\u2019s 13th COVID-19-related death\u2014 which was confirmed on Dec. 29\u2014was partially vaccinated, and that the 14th\u2019s vaccination status was pending.  <\/p>\n<p>Separately, in news releases from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1, CHCC confirmed a total of 202 positive cases of COVID-19. CHCC first announced that a total of 123 cases were confirmed from Dec. 27 to 29: one case was confirmed on Dec. 27; 50 on Dec. 28; and 72 on Dec. 29. By identification method, 28 were found through contact tracing and 95 through community testing. <\/p>\n<p>CHCC then confirmed 47 cases on Dec. 30. Of the 47, 12 were found through contact tracing, 32 through community testing, and three through travel testing.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, CHCC confirmed 32 cases on Dec. 28 and Dec. 31: two cases were confirmed on Dec. 28 and 30 cases on Dec. 31. By method, 15 were found through contact tracing, 15 through community testing, and two through travel testing. <\/p>\n<p>In all its recent releases, CHCC said that the cases have been isolated and are being actively monitored, and added that the vaccination statuses of the recent cases were pending verification. <\/p>\n<p>As of Dec. 31, CHCC reports that there have been 2,331 recoveries and 655 active cases since Oct. 28.
