Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig has retained Matthew Gregory as his counsel and for the department in the hearing of the House of Representatives Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee, which is investigating Gov. Ralph DLG Torres\u2019 expenditures of public funds and travels.<\/p>\n

In response to Saipan Tribune\u2019s inquiry last week, Atalig said he hired Gregory to ensure that he is within a lot of the rules and regulations the Department of Finance has to follow up.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust to ensure that I relay the proper information that the JGO would like to hear,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The secretary said he has not received any communication from the JGO committee as to his schedule to testify. He said he just saw on the newspaper (Saipan Tribune) that the JGO still wants him on standby, so to speak.<\/p>\n

The government is paying the attorney\u2019s fees for Atalig, along with that of Torres and other witnesses.<\/p>\n

Atalig said he has to prepare a report on how much the government is paying or about to pay in attorneys\u2019 fees to other lawyers who represented witnesses from the Department of Public Safety and Department of Finance.<\/p>\n

Last week, JGO committee chair Rep. Celina R. Babauta (D-Saipan) stated that they are not done yet with their investigation as they have yet to call in Atalig to testify. Babauta said they still have an outstanding subpoena for Atalig.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
