(Mark Rabago)

The Saipan Baseball League is down a man after board member David Attao tendered his resignation.

He cited “some personal matters that I need to focus on” as the reason for his resignation from the SBL board.

“I love helping our community and when I do so, I always work hard to give 100% of my energy within the limited time. As a program, we have accomplished some short-term objectives that should have long-term benefits that we set out to do in baseball. At this time and for the next few months, I personally need to focus on matters of great importance and value that need my attention and I choose to dedicate my limited time and energy to them,” he said in a statement to the Saipan Tribune.

SBL president Jay Santos said the resignation of Attao from the SBL board is a big loss to the federation.

“We’re sad to see him go. He’s a vital part of the team. We wish him the best. Hopefully things change in the immediate future so he can maybe help us in the Pacific Mini Games.”

Santos said Attao was supposed to serve as sports manager of baseball for the 2022 Pacific Mini Games the CNMI will be hosting for the first time ever this year.

“We need a replacement for him soon. Some other board members might step up and take on that role. Will figure it out in the next day or two,” he said.

Attao said despite stepping away temporarily from the sport he loves, he’s confident that the SBL will successfully organize the baseball event of the 2022 Mini Games and that the national team will make their home islands proud on the field.

“I have complete faith in the abilities, skills, and capabilities of our CNMI baseball players and program. There are so many excellent ball players. All those who tried out and those final 20 selected should be proud to be a part of history. I encourage them to support each other and help win the CNMI a gold medal!”

With Attao’s departure, Santos called on anyone from CNMI’s baseball-loving community to volunteer as a board member of the SBL.

“We’re looking for someone who might be interested in serving the SBL board of directors. We have no candidates we hope to find someone sooner than later.”

[5
2707,731
post-359356","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sports","tag-david-attao","tag-sbl
["GET
