(Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another Jones has hit pay dirt in the CNMI Women\u2019s Golf Association monthly tournament. <\/p>\n<p>This after Sherlyn Jones succeeded her namesake as champion of the January Ace of the Month Tournament after taming the greens and fairways of the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo last Saturday, Jan. 8.<\/p>\n<p>In CWGA\u2019s last tournament of the year, Flor Jones won the December ace at the Laolao Bay Golf &amp; Resort.<\/p>\n<p>Sherlyn topped the first monthly tournament of the all-women\u2019s golf club by shooting a net 71 on a 41 on the front nine and a 39 in the back. The former operating room nurse at the Commonwealth Health Center had a gross score of 80, which minus her 9 handicap gave her the day\u2019s best net score.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was lucky because those girls are very good players. Let\u2019s just say God was with me last Saturday,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Coming in second in the January tilt was Lorraine Babauta with her net 77 (82, 41-41), while completing the Top 3 was Yi Su Jeong with her 80 (83, 42-41).<\/p>\n<p>Sherlyn said she struggled in one of the par-4s in the front nine as the greens were pretty hard to read.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_359572\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-359572\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/CWGA-pix-22-300x226.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-359572\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sherlyn Jones topped CNMI Women\u2019s Golf Association\u2019s January Ace of the Month Tournament after shooting a net 71 last Saturday at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo. (Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI was just able to control my shots. I was really lucky as the greens were very fast and sometimes not so good. It was a beautiful golf course and I cannot really blame the course that much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sherlyn said her husband, Ben Sr., got her started in the sport way back in 2007 as he always came home very late after a round of golf. <\/p>\n<p>And with that if-you-can\u2019t-beat-him-join-him attitude, Sherlyn soon took up golf and the rest is history.<\/p>\n<p>Asked why she didn\u2019t try out for the women\u2019s national team for this year\u2019s Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games, she said she wasn\u2019t eligible because she\u2019s not a U.S. citizen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m originally from Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia. I\u2019m really sorry but I love my country. I already gave up my last name when I married my husband&#8230; and we really have good players so we\u2019re good [for the Mini Games],\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 12 golfers took part in the CWGA January tournament. The rest were Sae Hee Kim (net 80), Mio Kim (net 80), Flor Jones (net 81), Terry Guerrero (net 82), Lou Kim (net 83), Rose Rohringer (net 87), Sunny Hyun Son (net 88), Yuko Togawa (net 90), and Jang Eun Aen (net 93)<\/p>\n<p>The club continues to look for new members as the new season continues.
