Wiese, managing principal &#8211; Guam, RIM Architects.\u00a0(UOG)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The University of Guam finalized an agreement with RIM Architects on Jan. 19 to design a second nursing building and a larger facility for the\u00a0Water and Environmental Research Institute of the Western Pacific\u00a0on the UOG campus. The university received an $8.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce\u2019s Economic Development Administration in February 2021 to construct the facilities in order to increase the university\u2019s capacity to support regional economic development.<\/p>\n<p>The two-story nursing annex will add classrooms and lab space to the School of Health to facilitate student training within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and the Nursing Assistant Education Program and to support caregiver training through the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program.<\/p>\n<p>The three-story WERI building will add lab and equipment space for commercial water quality testing as well as a research library, conference room, and office space to support the monitoring and studying of the region\u2019s freshwater resources.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. EDA grant will cover 80% of the cost.
