{"id":364286,"date":"2022-03-16T06:00:28","date_gmt":"2022-03-15T20:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=364286"},"modified":"2022-03-16T06:00:28","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T20:00:28","slug":"dol-awarded-800k-for-nmis-humanitarian-assistance-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dol-awarded-800k-for-nmis-humanitarian-assistance-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"DOL awarded $800K for NMI\u2019s humanitarian assistance workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of Labor announced yesterday a supplemental award of $800,000 in funds to the\u00a0CNMI\u2019s Department of Labor \u2013 Workforce Investment Agency Division\u00a0to support continued\u00a0pandemic-related, disaster-relief employment.<\/p>\n<p>Administered by the\u00a0U.S. Department of Labor\u2019s\u00a0Employment and Training Administration,\u00a0this\u00a0National Dislocated Worker Grant\u00a0provided an emergency\u00a0award of $1.5 million in April 2020. The award announced yesterday brings the total project funds awarded to $2.3 million. CNMI DOL will use the funds to continue to support employment for those in humanitarian assistance positions.<\/p>\n<p>The grant is one of 64 grants the U.S. Department of Labor has made to help address the workforce-related impacts of the coronavirus public health emergency. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act provided $345 million for Dislocated Worker Grants to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, emergency declarations issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency enabled the\u00a0CNMI\u00a0to request this funding.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>National Dislocated Worker Grants\u00a0expand the service capacity of dislocated worker programs at the state and local levels temporarily by providing assistance in response to unexpected economic events that cause significant job losses.
