The annual signature event of the Marianas Visitors Authority is jointly organized with the Office of the Mayor of Tinian and Aguiguan. (MVA)<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rain showers couldn\u2019t put a damper on festivities at the 18th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival on March 11-13 2022, in the Marianas. <\/p>\n<p>The annual signature event of the Marianas Visitors Authority, organized in cooperation with the Mayor of Tinian &amp; Aguiguan, kicked off with a soft opening on Friday, March 11, and, despite scattered showers, provided a refreshing good time for residents and visitors throughout the weekend.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_364469\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-364469\" style=\"width: 184px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Tinian-pix2w-184x300.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-364469\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tinian High School JROTC cadets post colors at the 18th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival opening ceremony on March 11, 2022, in San Jose, Tinian, in the Marianas.  (MVA)<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>The 50K Pika Bike Race was held early Saturday morning with 35 registered bikers and finished without a hitch. As a follow-up to his 2021 first place finish, Joel Buco (01:40:22) again led the pack in the Men\u2019s Open Category, and Jully Rose Felipe (02:07:27) earned first place in the Women\u2019s Open Category.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_364470\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-364470\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Tinian-pix3w-300x169.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-364470\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sweetie\u2019s Corner, first place winner in the booth decorating contest, joins nine other food and drink vendors at the 18th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival. (MVA)<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>Later that day Jessica Cabrera of Tinian repeated her winning form of 2021 by chomping through 100 \u201cdonne sali\u201d peppers to top the Female Hot Pepper Eating Contest. The following day Christian Bulanadi of Tinian took the Men\u2019s title. The JC Caf\u00e9 Pikalicious Burger Eating Contest tested competitors with giant, \u201cdonne sali\u201d-laced patties, with Thomas Hoffman placing first. (MVA)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cUmang\u201d (hermit crab) Race for boys and girls was topped by Tristan Manglona and Jayden Reyes for having the fastest crabs to exit the circle. David Bamba and Carmen Dela Cruz stepped their way to first place in the Cha Cha Dance Competition. For the second year, first place in the Booth Decoration Contest went to Sweetie\u2019s Corner.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_364472\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-364472\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Tinian-pix5w-300x225.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-364472\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tinian &amp; Aguiguan Mayor Edwin Aldan, second right, and his wife hit the dance floor at the 18th Annual Tinian Hot Pepper Festival on March 11, 2022, in San Jose, Tinian. To all sponsors, volunteers, and visitors, because of you, the MVA is able to put this Pika event together. (MVA)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>The Tinian Hot Pepper Festival was held at the Fiesta Grounds in San Jose village and is usually held every President\u2019s Day weekend in February, although this year\u2019s festival was postponed to March due to the spread of the omicron variant.
