To kick off the event, there was a roadside waving with many supporters displaying various countries\u2019 flags. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we recognize extraordinary women in volunteerism and appreciate them for their countless time and [generosity] and giving what they do best because they\u2019re passionate and dedicated to giving back to our community,\u201d said Claudia Flores of the Women\u2019s Affairs Office. \u201cThis is what we mentor and what we coach to our young women and to our volunteers who decide to spend time giving back to their home and community.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_365090\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-365090\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/womens-month-pix2w.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-365090\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Miss Earth CNMI and Miss Air 2021 greet guests at their booth at the NMI Museum grounds last Thursday, March 24, 2022.(LEIGH GASES)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>The event was organized by the Commonwealth Women\u2019s Association, CNMI Women\u2019s Affairs Office, in cooperation with first lady Dianne Torres and the Lady Diann Torres Foundation and the CNMI Museum. The CNMI theme for the 2022 Women\u2019s Month is\u00a0\u201cGender Equality: Key to Sustainable Development\u201d\u00a0and the International Women\u2019s Day theme is\u00a0\u201cBreak the Bias.\u201d<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_365095\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-365095\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/womens-month-pixw3.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-365095\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shirley Ogumoro, left, poses with first lady Diann Torres, second from left, and friends during the roadside waving in celebration of International Women\u2019s Month at the NMI Museum grounds last Thursday, March 24, 2022. (LEIGH GASES)<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>Shirley Camacho-Ogumoro from the Women\u2019s Affairs Office said the celebration has a different theme every year. \u201cFor this year we have our different international women representing a different country, or island, but you\u2019re here traveling around the world at the museum, with no need to buy a plane ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year, though, they invited small business women entrepreneurs to sell their products at the event. \u201cWe\u2019ve got different kinds of products\u2026 and we have some refreshments and snacks and dinner,\u201d said Ogumoro.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_365091\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-365091\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/womens-month-pix4w.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-365091\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The First Lady Diann Torres Foundation booth during the celebration of International Women\u2019s Month at the NMI Museum grounds last Thursday, March 24, 2022.(LEIGH GASES)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There were many awareness groups at the event as well. The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. talked about public health, health issues for women, breast and cervical cancer, and also gave out COVID-19 booster shots.
