Bordallo announced yesterday that Shaira Espino, a senior at Simon Sanchez, won the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Espino\u2019s artwork, titled \u201cGuam at Its Peak,\u201d was selected as the top entry by a panel of local artists. Espino will now attend a reception on June 25, 2014, at the Capitol Visitor Center Auditorium and Atrium in Washington D.C., courtesy of United Airlines. (Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school art competition sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. This year\u2019s competition was open to all Guam high schools and featured 30 entries by students from Father Duenas Memorial School, George Washington High School, John F. Kennedy High School, and Simon Sanchez High School.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI commend our island\u2019s high school students and art instructors for their participation in this year\u2019s Congressional Art Competition. In particular, I congratulate Shaira and her parents, Diana and Arsenio, and her art instructor, Ron Canos on the selection of her artwork and I wish her the best of luck in the national competition,\u201d said Bordallo. \u201cShaira\u2019s artwork entitled \u2018Guam at its Peak\u2019 is an excellent display of her talent, which features historic landmarks and showcases the beauty of our island.
