{"id":366709,"date":"2022-04-20T06:02:37","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T20:02:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=366709"},"modified":"2022-04-20T06:02:37","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T20:02:37","slug":"23-youth-netters-to-compete-in-guams-chamorro-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/23-youth-netters-to-compete-in-guams-chamorro-open\/","title":{"rendered":"23 youth netters to compete in Guam\u2019s Chamorro Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_366699\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-366699\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/NMITA-pix-Elliotweb.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-366699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elliot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association will be taking a team of 23 junior players to Guam for the Chamorro Open Tennis Tournament, which will have its junior division this weekend at the Guam National Tennis Center in Dededo.<\/p>\n<p>NMITA president Jeff Race said the CNMI delegation would be made up of 15 boys and eight girls tennis players.<\/p>\n<p>The 15 boys junior netters are Jimin Woo\u200b, Andy Kim, \u200bJun Wang, David Kwon, \u200bCody Shimizu, \u200bSimon Tang, Wataru Kadokura\u200b, June Yu\u200b, Nason Wessel, Henry Choi, \u200bTaher Shakir, \u200bYutaka Kadokura, Ian Chae, \u200bRyan Choi, Jihun Park, \u200band Eamon Tang.<\/p>\n<p>The eight girls junior netters are \u200bHye Jin Elliot, \u200bSerin Chung, Savita Sikkel, \u200bAnna Kwon, \u200bIrin Chung, Hoo Wang, \u200bHannah Chae, and \u200bLina Tsukagoshi<\/p>\n<p>Irin Chung said after off-island tournaments were pretty much off the table due to COVID-19 the past couple of years she\u2019s glad that they can fly to Guam this weekend and compete in the Chamorro Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very excited to go compete in Guam since it is my first time. I was supposed to go to Guam two years ago for the Northern Pacific Regional Championships but that didn\u2019t happen because of the pandemic,\u201d she said.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_366700\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-366700\" style=\"width: 1779px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/NMITA-pix-Woofeatured.jpg\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-366700\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Woo<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>Elliot echoed Chung\u2019s sentiments, adding that it\u2019s a relief that they can finally go to an off-island tournament since her last tennis trip outside of the CNMI was 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am really excited to go off-island to be able to compete because I will be able to challenge other players,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>David Kwon said he too is excited to finally play in the Chamorro Open in Guam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so excited to play in Guam. I think it\u2019s been three years.
