This month,\u00a0two online dementia support group sessions\u00a0will feature special presentations and poetry readings by\u00a0CHamoru writer Pep Borja and Evelyn Flores,\u00a0professor of Pacific island literatures and CHamoru studies at the University of Guam. Borja and Flores will also share the stories of their journeys as writers.\u00a0These poetry reading sessions are specially designed to help caregivers learn to make meaningful connections\u00a0with older adults and persons with dementia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The presentations\u00a0are\u00a0part of the ongoing online support groups for\u00a0family caregivers of persons with dementia\u00a0being conducted by the Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program of the\u00a0University of Guam School of Health.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Also this month, world-renowned\u00a0dementia care specialists affiliated with Positive Approach to Care will provide training to caregivers of persons with dementia. Applied gerontologist Dr. Beth Nolan will present on \u201cBrain Changes in Dementia\u201d\u00a0on May\u00a014\u00a0and occupational therapist Teepa Snow, MS, OTR\/L, FAOTA, will present on \u201cNavigating the Journey of Dementia\u201d\u00a0on May 21.\u00a0Nolan and Snow\u00a0will be available after their presentations to answer questions from the group participants.<\/p>\n

Ongoing deme tia support groups The GWEP dementia support group sessions are held remotely on Zoom every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, year-round.
