Ralph DLG. Torres said Friday he did accept the resignation of Public Auditor Kina B. Peter, who will pursue another job opportunity, and acknowledged that he has not named her successor yet. <\/p>\n<p>In response to a question during a press briefing, Torres said he has not appointed anyone yet to replace Peter, whose resignation is effective on July 8.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_362079\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-362079\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Ralph-DLG.-Torres-PW-11-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-362079\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-362079\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Torres<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBut yes, I have accepted the resignation,\u201d the governor said. He did not elaborate. <\/p>\n<p>Peter was sworn in for the six-year term as public auditor only 15 months ago. She submitted her resignation letter to Torres last May 10. <\/p>\n<p>Torres appointed Peter in November 2020, making her the CNMI\u2019s first female Public Auditor. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368666\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368666\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kina-B.-Peter8-11-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-368666\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-368666\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Peter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Recently, Rep. Corina L. Magofna (Ind-Saipan) introduced an initiative that would make the CNMI\u2019s public auditor an elective position.<\/p>\n<p>Magofna\u2019s House Legislative Initiative 22-2 proposes to amend Article 3, Section 12 of the CNMI Constitution in order to remove the governor\u2019s authority to appoint a public auditor.<\/p>\n<p>When asked for comments about the proposed initiative, Torres said Friday that he has not seen or read the initiative yet.<\/p>\n<p>Peter in an interview Monday said she will be joining a private company here on Saipan.
