Then-acting governor Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider (R-Tinian) said over the weekend that Liberation Day every year is an opportunity to reflect upon the challenges and changes that the people in the CNMI have collectively endured and overcome. <\/p>\n
In a memorandum Friday, Hofschneider authorized non-critical employees of the CNMI’s departments and agencies to take an administrative leave that day starting at 12pm in honor and celebration of the Commonwealth\u2019s Liberation Day festivities.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the historic closure of Camp Susupe to where we are today as a Commonwealth, our journey of freedom and resilience is one that underscores the significant ability of the people of the Marianas in recovering from adversity and working together for the benefit of everyone who calls these islands home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said that, as the CNMI celebrates 76 years of freedom, it is important to remember and honor those who devoted their lives to the protection of freedoms, including those who defended the Marianas in World War II, and those who continue to defend the CNMI today.
