{"id":37216,"date":"2014-05-29T14:18:53","date_gmt":"2014-05-29T04:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=37216"},"modified":"2014-05-29T14:18:53","modified_gmt":"2014-05-29T04:18:53","slug":"pdm-promoters-cleanup-hauls-1180-lbs-trash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/pdm-promoters-cleanup-hauls-1180-lbs-trash\/","title":{"rendered":"PDM Promoters\u2019 cleanup hauls 1,180 lbs of trash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems like the amount of trash is increasing once again at the Garapan tourist district after PDM Promoters, Inc. collected 1,180 lbs of garbage in the area on Monday, May 26.<\/p>\n<p>The non-profit group\u2019s coordinator, Sonia Siwa, said they did their cleanup on Memorial Day instead of their regular Saturday schedule. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of Saturday, we did our cleanup Monday and unfortunately the Saipan Awaodori kids were not able to join us because some of them have their school activities,\u201d Siwa said.<\/p>\n<p>Last Monday\u2019s cleanup was spearheaded by volunteers from Kinpachi Restaurant. <\/p>\n<p>Compared to April\u2019s cleanup, which yielded 820 lbs of trash, they had more trash to pick up this time. Siwa said majority of the 1,180 lbs of trash the 13 Kinpachi volunteers collected were mostly dead leaves clogging drainages, cigarette butts, and other types of trash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs usual we did bush-cutting and trimming of the plants at the Paseo de Marianas,\u201d Siwa said.<\/p>\n<p>Trash collecting and trimming was done from Winchell\u2019s Road toward the whole section of Coral Tree Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also cleaned out the bushes that is clogging the drainage roadside of American Memorial Park,\u201d Siwa said.<\/p>\n<p>She hopes that the Saipan Awaodori members will join them in their next regular monthly cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>PDM Promoters is community group known for its cultural dance group, the Saipan Awaodori Team, and for keeping the Paseo de Marianas clean throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s monthly cleanups collect close to or more than 1,000 lbs of trash. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37218\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37218\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Kinpanchi-pix1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Kinpanchi-pix1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Kinpachi Restaurant employees pose in front of the restaurant after a hard work of collecting trash, trimming, raking, and cutting grass in Garapan.
