(CONTRIBUTED PHOTO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nicko Salem made a good example for his daughter and won a silver medal for it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Saipan Southern High School alumnus and former San Antonio, Saipan resident entered in the 2022 NewBreed Summer Championship in Raleigh North Carolina last July 9 and won a silver medal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got second place for that division. I fought in the middleweight class 170-180 lbs and I had two opponents\u2014one from the U.S. and the other from Spain,\u201d the U.S. Marine said.<\/p>\n<p>To take part in the 2022 NewBreed Summer Championship, Salem said he trained two hours a day, four times a week before the competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Salem said even though he didn\u2019t win gold it still felt great competing because he was trying to set an example for her daughter, Nickole.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u201cI never want her to feel alone and if she\u2019s going to do this for a while she\u2019s gonna need a little encouragement. This was my way of showing her that I will never let her do anything I wouldn\u2019t do myself.
