Recent Mount Carmel School graduates Victoria Parnes Ancheta, William Nathaniel Espeleta A\u00f1o, Yu Jeong Son, Joshua Donovan Camacho Tenorio, Aleia Carlinne Hofschneider Santos, and Christian Felix Cabrera Guerrero gained admission to each of their respective colleges for their undergraduate education.<\/p>\n
Pursuing a degree in chemistry, Ancheta has committed to the University of Baltimore Maryland County. “I chose UMBC because it prioritizes research and there are a lot of international collaboration opportunities. My goal is to collaborate with published scientists, get into medical school, and hopefully become a cardiothoracic surgeon to help others,” Ancheta said.<\/p>\n
Class of 2022 graduates A\u00f1o, Son, and Tenorio will be attending the University of Nevada Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
Due to the diverse population of students, partnership with the Western Undergraduate Exchange, or WUE, and academic programs A\u00f1o said, \u201cThere were several factors that influenced my choice of college. The main reasons include that UNLV is a participating university in the Western Undergraduate Exchange, or WUE, program which, makes it a cost-effective choice. It has a diverse population of students with Tagalog being one of the most-spoken second languages. Lastly, it has a robust computer science program, which is my intended field of study.\u201d\u2028The decision to attend UNLV was more personal for Tenorio. \u201cI chose UNLV because I grew up wanting to go there. I was born in Las Vegas, so I always considered it a second home. Going to UNLV just felt like the right choice for me,\u201d he said. Like A\u00f1o, Tenorio intends to study computer science.<\/p>\n
Santos, who is MCS\u2019 newest valedictorian, will be attending the University of Washington this fall. Passionate about helping her community, Santos shared her commitment to studying public health so she can help the CNMI public health system. \u2028\u201cWhile I am extremely grateful for my chance to be a student at a top-ranked STEM school, I am most excited about being near my family and friends in Washington. At the UW, I\u2019ll be able to further my education, meet new people, and make memories all at once. I am confident that my time at the UW will equip me with the skills needed to come back to the CNMI and improve the healthcare of our community as a whole,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Joining the ranks of the Badgers is Guerrero, who will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison at the College of Letters and Science. Eager to start his new academic journey, Guerrero said, \u201cThe University of Wisconsin-Madison was not initially on my list, but after further research, I discovered the countless resources and opportunities that the [university] had to offer pertaining to my field of interest\u2014computer science. The Midwest is also a region of the U.S. that I wish to live in and explore. I cannot wait to experience the Badger way of life, engage with like-minded individuals, and learn from enthusiastic professors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the community impact of Super Typhoon Soundelor, Super Typhoon Yutu, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Mount Carmel School continues to strengthen its college preparatory program in order to support its graduate’s academic and professional endeavors. In addition to rigorous academic programs, Mount Carmel School prioritizes its student\u2019s access to varying extra-curricular activities, apostolic programs, and community service opportunities.<\/p>\n
