It is basically a film about addictions: his mother\u2019s to alcohol; his\u00a0manager, Col. Tom Parker (played by an unrecognizable Tom Hanks), addicted to\u00a0money and gambling; Elvis to fame and drugs; his teenage fans to\u00a0their own hormonal hysteria from watching Elvis\u2019 display of sexually suggestive histrionics on stage. My father called him Pelvis Wriggly. I wrote the Elvish Pretzel in 2003, Return To Sender just last week.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>The Elvish Pretzel aka Pelvis Wriggly<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Elvish Pretzel\u2019s dough was squiggly<br \/>\nan oafish loaf of lounge lizard proportions<br \/>\ntwas baked in the image of Pelvis Wriggly<br \/>\nyou had to love its tender distortions<br \/>\nonce reaching the perfect temperature<br \/>\nit got up from its baking pan and strolled<br \/>\npast light crust doughboys who for sure<br \/>\nliked those hot sticky buns being sold<br \/>\nbeyond carrot cakes and banana cream pies<br \/>\nthrough marble halls of Memphis malls<br \/>\nnear jelly donuts and candy bars to despise<br \/>\npast spas selling pools with Niagara Falls<br \/>\nshops with Titanic ties and Gordian knots<br \/>\nbinding all to myths of the Sisyphean orb<br \/>\nfor sunny fun during cold spells and hots<br \/>\neating all the hotdogs and buns it could absorb<br \/>\nthe Elvish Pretzel is now a long time gone<br \/>\nit has left the building for the bakery today<br \/>\nputting on pounds and making its rounds<br \/>\nin an amazing grace land on Labor Day.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nR<strong>eturn to Sender: Brain Blender<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nLoving memories coming back slowly upstairs<br \/>\nto a brain pan balcony suffering from who cares<br \/>\nreturning to the sender whose befuddled brain<br \/>\nis stirred up and mixed in a senescent blender<br \/>\nmixing memories and emotions across stormy\u00a0<br \/>\nseas of sensuality, joy, sorrow, and despair<br \/>\nforgetting yesterday and preceding tomorrow<br \/>\nHow did that old Elvis Presley song go ?<br \/>\n\u201c Return to sender, address unknown<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0no such number, no such zone\u201d<br \/>\nFunny I can remember that but not the names<br \/>\nof sweethearts remembered. I recall the crush<br \/>\nhow we met and all the romance and the rush<br \/>\nlayers of an onion union are peeled back<br \/>\nno more crocodile tears from slicing it up<br \/>\nAdam\u2019s rib and Eve\u2019s big fib now meet again<br \/>\nwas it at a record hop or after a football game<br \/>\nswimming in the ocean or chlorine filled pool<br \/>\nreturn to sender, name forgotten, age unknown<br \/>\nall these years gone, nostalgia is not a mender<br \/>\ndon\u2019t know how to contact them on cell phone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joey &#8216;Pepe Batbon&#8217; Connolly (Special to the Saipan Tribune)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Joey aka Pepe Batbon is a retired educator who taught in the CNMI, NOLA, and LVNV.
