But, every challenge is a chance for success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These were the words of 8th grade Mount Carmel School student Maria Christine M. Lazaro, who was named class valedictorian Saturday during the school\u2019s promotion ceremony at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37402\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37402\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Maria-Christine.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-37402\" alt=\"Lazaro, valedictorian.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Maria-Christine-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37402\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lazaro, valedictorian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A total of 32 grade school students were promoted in the weekend ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Lazaro thanked the school\u2019s teachers and staff and her parents for their diligence and unconditional support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout my teachers I would not be where I am right now. You are like my second parents. Thank you for being patient with us. Thank you for dealing with out middle school drama,\u201d she said in her address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you Mom and Dad for the sacrifices you made to allow me to have a good Catholic education. I hope I make you proud,\u201d she said. \u201cParents put up with so much and ask for so little.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fellow graduate Monica Aira B. Usi received the second highest academic honor as the salutatorian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you parents and family for being by our side even in the hardest of situations,\u201d she said in her speech. \u201cHere at Mount Carmel every student receives a great education. We have learned to see with Christ\u2019s eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cassidy Chong Torres was recognized as 1st honor.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s ceremony also awarded graduates Jeff Melchor with the President Award, Maria Christine Lazaro with the Citizenship Award, and Erika Mendiola with the School Leadership Award.<\/p>\n<p>Grade school graduate Ace Evangelista said that promoting to high school \u201cfeels good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy experience was fun with all the memories we had. The school helped me see with Christ\u2019s eyes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow graduate and Rota transferee Jonelle Toskas expressed similar sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy experience was fun and I had a great experience at MCS. There was a lot of studying and hard work into getting here. I plan on continuing my education with high school at this school,\u201d Toskas told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>School president Galvin Deleon Guerrero congratulated the students and urged them see each other and the people around them with the wise, empathetic, and forgiving eyes of Christ.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you do that\u2026you will do what He told us to do, \u2018Love each other as I loved you,\u2019\u201d he told the students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople will hurt you and you will hurt other people. We are all imperfect. We all make mistakes. That is why we need to see each other with the forgiving eyes of Christ,\u201d Guerrero added.<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent of Catholic Schools Fr. Ryan P. Jimenez, board chair Attorney Joseph Taijeron, school vice principal Bobby Nelson Baldazo, and school counselor Tobed Smith were also present to congratulate the students. <em><strong>(Thomas Manglona II)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cAs we move forward to high school, there surely will be obstacles.
