To date, approximately $9.8 million in PUA waivers have been approved since the U.S. Department of Labor eased the guidelines for waiver of overpayments\u2014an initiative Governor Lou Leon Guerrero championed in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>The Guam Department of Labor has also successfully processed checks for PUA recipients who have already made payments on their outstanding balances. Approximately $700,000 has been processed for 335 individuals. All payments will be issued via check and not through direct deposit. Each recipient will be contacted individually to schedule check pickup at the GDOL main office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working diligently to review all overpayment waiver applications, so that each applicant can leverage these funds to meet the high cost of living,\u201d said Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero. \u201cAs our island recovers, we have made these waivers a priority to help our people rise up, in addition to the distribution of direct assistance and relief payments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPUA waivers and other relief initiatives including the $500 power credit, Prugr\u00e5man Sal\u00e5ppe\u2019, Emergency Rental Assistance, Homeowners Assistance Fund, and Prugr\u00e5man Pinilan are critical to helping Guam\u2019s families recover,\u201d said Lt.
