Liu\u2019s poems were known for \u201cminimum words,\u00a0maximum message.\u201d Tinian island provided the content.<\/em><br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Rainy Days on Tinian<\/strong><br \/>\nRainy days on Tinian make me sleepy<br \/>\nbanana trees outside the bedroom window<br \/>\nI wake to musical rain on banana leaves<br \/>\nbanana stalks bend toward the house.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Bridge to Saipan<\/strong><br \/>\nSteep cliffs to the sea form walls<br \/>\nI see light from Saipan in the clouds<br \/>\nif I could split all the cliffs\u00a0<br \/>\ninto a million slabs of rock<br \/>\nI\u2019d build a bridge across the channel.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Typhoon Coming<\/strong><br \/>\nSoutheastern cliffs chung\u00e9 birds vanish<br \/>\ncoconut crab paths broken husks<br \/>\none boat offshore four poles two men<br \/>\nchecking lines typhoon on the way.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Mayor of Naftan Rock *I\u2019e\u2019 Party<\/strong><br \/>\nReef fish caught with speargun talaya pole<br \/>\nmafuti, parrot, tiao, trigger, tataga, yan i\u2019e\u2019<br \/>\ngrilled with tangantangan fire on the beach<br \/>\nI\u2019m candidate for Mayor of Naftan Rock<br \/>\nI\u2019E\u2019 Party \u2013 I easily escape being caught.<\/p>\n<p><em>(I\u2019e\u2019 pronounced ee are also called tarakitu.
