Tenorio, fourth from left, secretary\/treasurer of the 17th Board of Education and executive director of the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic &amp; Sexual Violence, signs the proclamation that designates October as Bullying and Violence Prevention Month.\u00a0(LEIGH GASES)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Youth Advisory Panel student leaders in high school, middle school, and elementary school\u00a0on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota were joined by education leaders across the Commonwealth last Monday for an in-person\u00a0YAP\u00a0Youth Summit at the Magellan Restaurant of the Pacific Islands Club that also saw the month of October being designated as Bullying and Violence Prevention Month.<\/p>\n<p>The summit consisted of presentations and educational outreach pertaining to bullying and violence prevention. This was followed by the proclamation signing, which had Maisie B. Tenorio, Board of Education secretary\/treasurer and executive director of the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic &amp; Sexual Violence, signing the proclamation on behalf of Antonio L. Borja, acting chairperson of the 17th Board of Education. The occasion was also attended by members of the BOE, Education Commissioner Dr. Alfred B. Ada and members of his key management\u00a0and staff,\u00a0program leaders, and community partners.<\/p>\n<p>The proclamation states that \u201cbullying and violence prevention programs are established to provide schools and communities with sustained commitment and leadership to address and stop bullying, harassment, abuse and other forms of emotional and physical violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proclamation had the theme \u201cChoose Respect!\u201d The proclamation stated that the theme was chosen to show that bullying is a behavioral\u00a0choice, and that children and young people can set a positive example by opting to respect each other at school, in their homes and communities, and online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan\u00a0Nuera, a student representative in the BOE who is a senior at Tinian High School, said he is thankful for the event. \u201cIt&#8217;s just great to see\u2026the different things that we can do and implement in our schools to create more safe learning spaces for all of the students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A total of 108 students from 20 public schools took part in the summit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Youth Advisory Panel student leaders in high school, middle school, and elementary school\u00a0on Saipan, Tinian,&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":25,"featured_media":378074,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-378073","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/378073","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/25"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=378073"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/378073\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/378074"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=378073"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=378073"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=378073"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
