{"id":379387,"date":"2022-11-10T06:06:20","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T20:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=379387"},"modified":"2022-11-10T06:06:20","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T20:06:20","slug":"boh-celebrates-125th-anniversary-with-tree-planting-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/boh-celebrates-125th-anniversary-with-tree-planting-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"BOH celebrates 125th anniversary with tree planting campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WAI\u2018ANAE, Hawai\u2018i\u2014Hundreds of volunteers rolled up their sleeves on this Arbor Day, clearing away brush and planting more than 1,500 native trees at the Wai\u2018anae Kai Forest Reserve for Bank of Hawai\u2018i\u2019s annual Community Service Day.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the event also marked the culmination of Bank of Hawai\u2018i\u2019s pledge to plant the equivalent of more than 125 trees per week throughout 2022 in celebration of the bank\u2019s 125th anniversary and commitment to sustaining the environment.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Saturday\u2019s volunteer hours, Bank of Hawai\u2018i Foundation and long-time corporate partner, Hawaiian Airlines, donated a combined total of $10,000 to Wai\u2018anae Mountain Watershed Partnership in support of its mission to develop and implement management strategies for the Wai\u2018anae Mountains and its native species and habitats.<\/p>\n<p>This brings the total amount of grants awarded to nonprofits from Bank of Hawai\u2018i\u2019s 125th anniversary tree planting pledge to $121,202. Funds were distributed to 12 organizations across the island communities the bank serves, with $106,000 going to eight Hawai\u2018i nonprofits and $15,202 going to Guam, Saipan and Palau.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Bank-of-Hawaii-graphics.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-379391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Bank-of-Hawaii-graphics-1024x549.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"515\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal during our milestone 125th anniversary year was to put our commitment to preserving our environment at the forefront, to m\u0101lama our islands by planting trees today for a better tomorrow. We have long focused on sustainability at Bank of Hawai\u2018i and caring for our home. We plan to continue to invest in the environment today and for generations to come,\u201d said Momi Akimseu, Bank of Hawai\u2018i Foundation president.<\/p>\n<p>Grants were determined with consultation from the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife Kaulunani Urban &amp; Community Forestry Program. All funds were used to plant or distribute trees for planting, with each nonprofit creating its own plan for their grant money.
