{"id":379630,"date":"2022-11-15T06:06:48","date_gmt":"2022-11-14T20:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=379630"},"modified":"2022-11-15T06:06:48","modified_gmt":"2022-11-14T20:06:48","slug":"wested-to-operate-an-equity-assistance-center-in-western-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wested-to-operate-an-equity-assistance-center-in-western-region\/","title":{"rendered":"WestEd to operate an Equity Assistance Center in Western Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of Education has awarded WestEd and its partners, Pacific Resources for Education and Learning and Attendance Works, a $1,628,613\u00a0grant to manage the Equity Assistance Center in the Western region of the United States.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Together, the team will bring content expertise and deep knowledge of the region to manage the federal Western Educational Equity Assistance Center, which includes Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, the CNMI, Guam, Hawai\u2019i, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Center is one of four EACs across the nation and U.S. territories that provides technical assistance and training\u2014upon request from school districts, state education agencies, and others\u2014to promote equity in student access to educational opportunities and resources.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re honored to have been selected to manage the Western Educational Equity Assistance Center,\u201d Niki Sandoval, senior strategic development manager at WestEd and Center director, said. \u201cBringing together our collective expertise, high-quality resources, and existing partnerships will advance equitable opportunities for students throughout the region.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>WestEd has successfully led the\u00a0Regional Educational Laboratory West\u00a0since its inception in 1966 and has led Comprehensive Centers\u00a0in the region for more than 17 years. Operating the WEEAC will continue WestEd\u2019s legacy of aligning the work of federally funded centers to deepen impact in the Western region.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The EACs were established as the federal Desegregation Assistance Centers under the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
