{"id":380869,"date":"2022-12-02T06:06:25","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T20:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=380869"},"modified":"2022-12-02T06:06:25","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T20:06:25","slug":"new-resource-document-explains-job-rights-of-service-members-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/new-resource-document-explains-job-rights-of-service-members-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"New resource document explains job  rights of service members, veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON\u2014The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has released a resource document, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/protections-against-employment-discrimination-service-members-and-veterans?utm_name=\">Protections Against Employment Discrimination for Service Members and Veterans<\/a>,\u201d describing federal protections from unlawful employment discrimination against service members and veterans.<\/p>\n<p>The document\u2014jointly-authored by the EEOC, the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans\u2019 Employment and Training Service, and the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division\u2014details federal laws and other authorities that provide workplace protections specific to service members and veterans. For the first time, it provides a single publication to help veterans and service members determine which laws and federal agencies are responsible for enforcing their workplace rights and where to seek assistance if they believe those rights have been violated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur military members sacrifice immensely to keep our country safe, and whether they are actively serving, reservists, or veterans, we must ensure they know their workplace rights and how to enforce them if they experience discrimination.\u201d said EEOC chair Charlotte A. Burrows. \u201cThis document clearly explains that they are protected from discrimination because of their military service, veterans status, disability or other reasons, such as their race, religion, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation or gender identity), age, or genetic information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Assistant attorney general Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division said, \u201cWe owe our servicemembers, veterans, and their families a deep debt of gratitude for their service to our country.
