(UOG)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The University of Guam Press and the Northern Marianas College will celebrate the official launch of their newly established imprint, Proa Publications, and its first title,\u00a0A Marianas Mosaic: Signs and Shifts in Contemporary Island Life on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Proa Publications was established in January 2022 through a memorandum of understanding between UOG Press and NMC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Marianas Mosaic\u00a0is the first of many books that serves as a testament to UOG and NMC\u2019s combined efforts to uplift the communities we are dedicated to serving,\u201d said NMC president Galvin Deleon Guerrero. \u201cAs academic institutions rooted in discovery, excellence and cultural vitality, we look ahead with optimism at the opportunities arising from our continued partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UOG Press publishing director Victoria-Lola Leon Guerrero said the launch of Proa Publications illustrates the publishing house\u2019s commitment to expanding publishing opportunities throughout the region.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_381892\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-381892\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Proa-Publications-pix2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-381892\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Proa-Publications-pix2-203x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"203\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-381892\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Proa Publications\u2019 first title,\u00a0A Marianas Mosaic: Signs and Shifts in Contemporary Island Life, will be launched at the NMI Museum of History and Culture on Saipan on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at 5:30pm. (UOG)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOur mission is to expand accessibility to knowledge about Micronesia through our high-quality, peer-reviewed publications,\u201d Leon Guerrero said. \u201cA Marianas Mosaic\u00a0is a wonderful first book for Proa Publications as it features a collection of academic and\u00a0literary writing about the unique experiences and perspectives of the peoples of the Marianas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Marianas Mosaic\u00a0was edited by Ajani Burrell with Kimberly Bunts-Anderson, both faculty at NMC. The anthology explores the many \u201cmodes, forms, and voices of life in the Marianas today,\u201d said Burrell. \u201cWe hope it provides a partial record of contemporary dynamics in the region and helps to foster vital dialogue about those dynamics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Marianas Mosaic\u00a0was produced with support from the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, which views the publication as an opportunity to amplify the voices and stories of the Mariana Islands. \u201cIt is exciting to see this work published through our partner UOG Press and to bring the weave of our collective cultural tapestry of these islands into one book,\u201d said NMHC\u2019s executive director Leo Pangelinan.<\/p>\n<p>The book\u2019s launch will be held at the NMI Museum of History and Culture on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at 5:30pm.
