They even worked as baristas in local coffee shops and surrounded themselves with their passion– coffee.

Finally, the couple, who vacation to Saipan occasionally, had their eureka moment on the way back to Oregon, and proceeded to make the plans to open a coffee shop back home, which took about a year and a half. The couple returned home in October 2021.

“We felt like we were the perfect candidates to open a coffee shop because every time we go somewhere, we’re always critiquing to ourselves ‘what could have been better for our experience?’… So now, it’s in our control. It’s like, okay, now we can do it in a way of what service means to us,” said Kristin about why they decided to open Hafabean.

Both Luther and Kristin wanted to create a workspace where they were happy and with their coffee shop, it has come into fruition. “It’s such a crazy thing to be able to wake up and be like, ‘man, this is the work environment we’re creating.’ We weren’t expecting to have customers come back almost every day or hang out by the bar and talk to us. What a pleasure to be able to have that kind of relationship with your customers. That’s what Luther and I were hoping for and praying for, and it’s happening.”

“Customer service is our forefront. That’s what we really want to prioritize and I feel like we’re getting a lot of kudos for that. A lot of people tell us ‘it was the service that really kept us coming back.’”

Check out their instagram at Hafabeancoffee.
