The Superior Court has imposed a total of $30,000 cash bail on two men who allegedly assaulted a firefighter who was off-duty on Christmas Day. <\/p>\n
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho imposed a $20,000 and $10,000 cash bail on Rickson Michael and Julius M. Paul, respectively, last Tuesday for allegedly assaulting an off-duty firefighter of the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.<\/p>\n
Michael, 23, is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault, and battery, and disturbing the peace; Paul, 24, faces charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace.<\/p>\n
Following the bail hearing, both defendants were remanded back to Department of Corrections custody and were ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 4 at 10am. Both men will be arraigned on Jan. 9 at 10am.<\/p>\n
According to court documents, the off-duty firefighter was hanging out with his girlfriend in a vehicle at the Aquarius Beach Tower Hotel parking lot early Christmas morning when the girlfriend said she heard a man and a woman yelling near a pavilion by the beach.<\/p>\n
She said she went near the pavilion and saw two men shoving each other. \u00a0Her boyfriend, who was following her with a flashlight, told her to come back. He identified himself as a firefighter and asked the two men what was going on.<\/p>\n
The firefighter said he then heard someone shout and saw Michael running toward him.<\/p>\n
The firefighter said he threw a punch at Michael who fell to the ground. The firefighter then held Michael to the ground.<\/p>\n
Michael continued to struggle with the firefighter who identified himself as a firefighter.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Michael punched him on the ribs once when Paul arrived and started punching the firefighter.<\/p>\n
The firefighter said he managed to run away from the two assailants and called 911 in the hotel lobby.<\/p>\n
