{"id":382693,"date":"2023-01-04T06:06:07","date_gmt":"2023-01-03T20:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=382693"},"modified":"2023-01-04T06:06:07","modified_gmt":"2023-01-03T20:06:07","slug":"advanced-dementia-care-training-at-uog-this-jan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/advanced-dementia-care-training-at-uog-this-jan\/","title":{"rendered":"Advanced dementia care training at UOG this Jan."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Guam\u2019s Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program is offering an opportunity for caregivers of persons with dementia to participate in an online training and certification program called CARES Dementia Advanced Care.<\/p>\n<p>This award-winning program has six modules: (1) Making a Connection with the Person; (2) Eating Well; (3) Recognizing Pain; (4) Minimizing Falls; (5) Rethinking Wandering; and (6) Minimizing and Eliminating Restraints. Participants who complete all six modules will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible for CARES Dementia Certification.<\/p>\n<p>The training schedule is outlined below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Module 1 \u2013 Making a Connection with the Person: 6pm \u2013 8pm, Wednesday, Jan. 4<\/li>\n<li>Module 2 \u2013 Eating Well: 10am \u2013 12pm, Saturday, Jan. 7<\/li>\n<li>Module 3 \u2013 Recognizing Pain: 6pm \u2013 8pm Wednesday, Jan. 11<\/li>\n<li>Module 4 \u2013 Minimizing Falls: 10am \u2013 12pm, Saturday, Jan. 14<\/li>\n<li>Module 5 \u2013 Rethinking Wandering: 6pm \u2013 8pm Wednesday, Jan. 18<\/li>\n<li>Module 6 \u2013 Minimizing and Eliminating Restraints: 10am \u2013 12pm, Saturday, Jan. 21<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CARES Dementia Advanced Care certification exam will be at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6pm \u2013 8pm, Wednesday, Jan. 25<\/li>\n<li>10am \u2013 12pm, Saturday, Jan. 28<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participants can attend the Wednesday or Saturday sessions using the following Zoom links:<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday sessions: <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/92072878067\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/92072878067<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Saturday sessions: <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/91243370958\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/91243370958<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ongoing dementia support groups<\/p>\n<p>The training program is part of the ongoing online support groups for family caregivers of persons with dementia being conducted by the Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program of the UOG School of Health. The support group sessions are held on Zoom every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning year-round.
