The Saipan Chamber of Commerce has awarded scholarships to 17 CNMI students as part of its annual tradition of supporting students by defraying the cost of pursuing either their postsecondary education or trades education.<\/p>\n
The two scholarships are the Chamber Education Award and the Pellegrino Vocational Education Award. The Chamber Education Award is for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota high school graduates or ongoing college residents seeking higher education at the Northern Marianas College on Saipan. The Pellegrino Vocational Education Award is for Saipan residents seeking further training at vocational trades institutions on-island.<\/p>\n

The SCC said in a statement yesterday that it gave the scholarship awards to students who display academic excellence, extracurricular success, leadership force, and volunteerism. It did not indicate the amounts awarded to each student.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe SCC Education and Workforce Development Committee is committed to this annual tradition to support students by defraying the cost of pursuing their postsecondary education, thus improving our local workforce, and solving issues impacting our community,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe would like to thank the community scholars for their hardworking efforts of submitting their applications and documents to our office.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scholarship awardees apply for the grants and are selected by the SCC Education and Workforce Development Committee.<\/p>\n
