Ramon \u201cRB\u201d Camacho<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Saipan Mayor Ramon \u201cRB\u201d Camacho, who was sworn into office in an inauguration ceremony at the parking lot of the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office yesterday morning, said he needs the help of the community in order to ensure that his office succeeds, and that he can\u2019t do it alone.<\/p>\n

By first working together, it is a step in the right direction, he said. \u201cOur new way forward\u2014together! Starting today, we can make a difference in our community. We can bring different organizations, nonprofit groups, different ethnic groups, different religions. I want to bring them in. I want them to help me help and promote a safe community, a safe village, and a clean island.\u201d<\/p>\n

He shared that during his time as assistant chief of police, he just looked at the apprehension of criminals, but now, he wants to go about the route of prevention and, with that, he wants to establish Neighborhood Watch Programs throughout the villages of Saipan.<\/p>\n

The four pillars that can come out from the Neighborhood Watch program are care, understanding, trust, and respect, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to educate the community. \u2026Where are the resources to combat all the unacceptable activities? It\u2019s us. Community is the solution to the village problem. \u2026Let\u2019s not wait until somebody gets seriously hurt before we react. I want to look at being proactive, not reactive. This is about the community\u2014us here. \u2026Please join us and let\u2019s all work together and join me to promote a safe community, safe villages, and a clean island community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also likened his bid for mayor to baseball, saying that he ran for mayor for the third time and finally got it on his third try. \u201cStrike one, strike two\u2014but I didn\u2019t strike out. When I hit the ball, the ball popped up so high, the outfielders went back, the umpire was looking for the ball, but they couldn\u2019t find [it]\u2014the ball never dropped. The chief umpire had no choice but to say, \u2018home run\u2019!\u201d<\/p>\n

Before his remarks, the oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona of the U.S. District Court for the NMI.<\/p>\n
