Saipan Southern High School\u2019s Manta Ray Band director and conductor William DeWitt announced yesterday that the musical group is all set for its annual concert tomorrow night, June 11, at the school\u2019s cafeteria.<\/p>\n
He invited the public to grace the special performance beginning at 6:30pm. It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
On this special occasion, the band will be conducted by current student conductors and band alumni Donovan Tudela, Ian Rogolifoi, Keoni Borja, and Allen Park.<\/p>\n
DeWitt disclosed that beginning, intermediate, and advanced bands will perform selections such as music from Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Pearl Harbor\u2019s movie soundtrack, F.U.N., March of the Spinner Dolphins, and more.<\/p>\n
\u201cCome out and see for yourselves why SSHS students are so passionate about making music. Bring the entire family. Experience what their award-winning sound is in person,\u201d said DeWitt.<\/p>\n
Meantime, DeWitt said the Saipan Pacific Winds annual concert is scheduled on June 12 beginning at 6:30pm at the Pacific Islands Club\u2019s Charley\u2019s Cabaret. Admission ticket costs only $5 and may be obtained from band members or purchased at the door.<\/p>\n
This concert will be conducted by Christine Nierras and Donovan Tudela. A special appearance by the percussion ensemble that won the 2014 Tumon Bay Music Festival is also among the night\u2019s highlights.<\/p>\n
For this Pacific Wind concert, the music will include favorites by Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Kenny G, Barry Manilow, and John Philip Sousa.<\/p>\n
Desserts and drinks will be sold separately.<\/p>\n
This celebration coincides with the 20th anniversary concert of the CNMI\u2019s first and only community concert band. This will also be Nierras\u2019 final concert with the band after 10 years as co-conductor.
