Based on their finishes in the Pacific Oceania Junior Championships last September they have been selected by the Oceania Tennis Federation to represent the Pacific Oceania Team in the 2023 World Team U14 Pre Qualifying competition. It is very exciting to have our NMI junior players be able to play in such a high level competition,\u201d said Race in a social media message to tennis stakeholders.\u00a0<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_384381\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-384381\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/OTF-pix-Chaewb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/OTF-pix-Chaewb.jpg\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-384381\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chae<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>The 2023 ITF World Teams Competition Asia\/Oceania Pre-Qualifying Events will take place from Feb. 13 to 18 in Sri Lanka\u2019s capital of Colombo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lam, who last year became the youngest player ever to compete in Wimbledon, said he\u2019s honored to represent the CNMI again in an off-island tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very thankful and excited to play in such a high-level competition. I can\u2019t wait to be there,\u201d said the 13-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>Lam dedicated this latest achievement to his parents, Race, the Oceania Tennis Federation, and all his friends in the CNMI \u201cwho have been supporting him tremendously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for training in the lead up to the pre-qualifying competition, Lam said his coaches in Spain, where he\u2019s now based, have lined up a busy schedule for him already.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m planning to go to the Valencia Tennis Academy next week in Spain, join their program, and play local tournaments to prepare for the competition,\u201d he told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>Chae, for her part, is thankful for being selected to the U14 Pacific Oceania Team for the pre qualifying tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t expect much from the competition, but I\u2019m sure that I\u2019m going to do my best,\u201d said the 13-year-old from Saipan Community School who is dedicating her selection to her parents.<\/p>\n<p>Race, meanwhile, said it\u2019s always an honor to be selected by the OTF to captain a regional team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my first time to be a part of a World Team U14\u2019s squad. It\u2019s on clay and I know that LaHunn likes that surface so I like his chances. Hannah will get a big and exciting learning experience,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from Lam, also part of the Pacific Oceania boys U14 ta, to the tournament are Tahiti\u2019s Toanui Lee Tam and Solomon Islands\u2019 John Taufunu.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Chae in the girls U14 squad are Papua New Guinea\u2019s Colita Hakena and Cook Islands\u2019 Raetea Rongo.
