{"id":3849,"date":"2012-02-23T02:32:09","date_gmt":"2012-02-23T02:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newspaper.ctsi-logistics.com\/?p=3849"},"modified":"2012-02-23T02:32:09","modified_gmt":"2012-02-23T02:32:09","slug":"sexual-assault-victim-testifies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/sexual-assault-victim-testifies\/","title":{"rendered":"Sexual assault victim testifies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Ferdie de la Torre<br \/>\nReporter<\/div>\n<p>The victim took the witness stand yesterday in the ongoing Superior Court jury trial of 38-year-old Anthony Raymond Mendiola Camacho, who allegedly tried to rape her inside a car in As Matuis last year.<\/p>\n<p>The victim narrated to the court how Camacho persuaded her to bring her to a secluded old radar station in As Matuis, where he allegedly threatened to \u201cslaughter her\u201d before trying to rape her on Feb. 23, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The victim said that she managed to escape after she hit the suspect in the left eye with the car key.<\/p>\n<p>The government&#8217;s last witness yesterday was police detective Melissa Bauleung, who first interviewed the victim and brought her to the Commonwealth Health Center for examination that same night.<\/p>\n<p>The trial will continue today, Thursday, at 9am.<\/p>\n<p>Associate judge Kenneth Govendo is presiding over the trial. Assistant attorney general Shelli Neal is prosecuting the case. Attorney Stephen Woodruff is counsel for Camacho.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho is a convicted sex offender.<\/p>\n<p>In the separate Superior Court jury trial of Nestor C. Taitano, an ex-convict accused with a co-defendant of beating and robbing a 65-year-old masseur, the prosecution and defense counsel rested their cases yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The trial will continue today, Thursday, at 8:30am. Associate judge Joseph N. Camacho is presiding.<\/p>\n<p>The government called yesterday to the witness stand Taitano&#8217;s cousin and co-defendant, Joshua Basaliso.<\/p>\n<p>Basaliso had already pleaded guilty to assault and battery as part of a plea deal.
