My inspiration for this sonnet is a 16th\u00a0century madrigal by English composer Francis Pilkington (ca. 1570 -1638). Madrigals were popular secular songs in the Renaissance and early Baroque eras. Their lyrics were based on poetry and\u00a0performed acapella without any accompaniment.<\/p>\n
