{"id":386846,"date":"2023-03-08T06:06:02","date_gmt":"2023-03-07T20:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=386846"},"modified":"2023-03-08T06:06:02","modified_gmt":"2023-03-07T20:06:02","slug":"crowne-plaza-nmtech-sign-moa-to-beef-up-local-capacity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/crowne-plaza-nmtech-sign-moa-to-beef-up-local-capacity\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowne Plaza, NMTech sign MOA\u00a0\u00a0to beef up local capacity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, under the brand of the InterContinental Hotels Group, and the Northern Marianas Technical Institute have started a partnership that aims to build local capacity\u00a0in the fields of hospitality and tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan general manager Robert Coates, NMTech\u2019s CEO Jodina Attao, Island Training Solutions\u2019 Jim Arenovski, along with Crowne Plaza\u2019s executive and leadership team, joined the signing ceremony for the memorandum of agreement yesterday morning at the hotel resort\u2019s Azucena room.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement starts the partnership with Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, NMTech, and ITS that would result in students undergoing training at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the signing, a presentation was made by Crowne Plaza on the IHG brand and IHG Academy, which pertains to different aspects of training and development, with the end goal of working within the IHG brand.\u00a0They offer Early Experiences, which include work experience, internships, apprenticeships; and Leadership Programs, which include Future Leader Embark and Future Leader Aspire.<\/p>\n<p>In this trio of partnerships with ITS, NMTech, and IHG, \u201cITS is responsible for training the 75 students in the Trading Up Program within the CNMI Public School System and filling the pipeline so that they get pumped into the IHG Academy,\u201d Attao said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_386847\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-386847\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Crowne-Plaza-pix1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-386847\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Crowne-Plaza-pix1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"639\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-386847\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan general manager Robert Coates, seated left, Northern Marianas Technical Institute\u2019s CEO Jodina Attao, seated right,\u00a0Island Training Solution\u2019s Jim Arenovski, standing right, and Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan\u2019s executive sous chef Zenn Tomokane take a photo after Coates and Attao sign a memorandum of agreement between NMTech and IHG yesterday morning at Crowne Plaza\u2019s Azucena Room. (LEIGH GASES)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NMTech\u2019s mission is to\u00a0invest in students by providing advanced trades, career, and technical education to produce skilled individuals and strengthen the CNMI workforce. With this program, \u201cwe are ready and willing to work with the hotels in the CNMI to have a place for students to work\u201d after they\u2019ve completed their hospitality certification.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hotel industry is not just about customer service. It\u2019s already a full-blown operation and everything that NMTech offers can be enhanced through additional partnerships with hotels such as IHG,\u201d added Attao. Not only will students be filling gaps in the front of the house jobs such as front desk and waitstaff, but also engineering, culinary, IT, and other jobs in the hospitality industry, she said.<\/p>\n<p>NMTech has so far partnered with different organizations like ITS, Northern Marianas College, CNMI PSS, and now IHG, which \u201care coming into play so that we can expand our services and continue to build our capacity as a community\u2026 Ultimately, we\u2019re trying to build NMTech as the hub,\u201d said Attao. NMTech is looking at partnering with organizations as well.<\/p>\n<p>Coates is grateful to be partnering with NMTech and, in a bid to inspire students, recounted that he himself started out as a night porter and grew from there to where he is now\u2014the general manager of Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to be partnering with great institutions. We need your people\u2014they need us and that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about\u2026 that\u2019s what we want to do. It\u2019s all about giving people opportunity. It doesn\u2019t matter where they come from. It doesn\u2019t matter about their educational background. It\u2019s not about money.
