When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down his tourist company, Ken Chen turned to his passion and opened a billiards establishment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thus was born Black 8 Pool Bar on Oct. 15, 2022 and with weekly 8-ball and electronic darts tournaments making him busy, he couldn\u2019t be happier.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a pool player too and this is trending and I love sports, having played for four years already. I wanna try a bar business too,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Black 8 Pool Bar, which is located in the heart of the tourist district of Garapan, has two billiards tables and two electronic dart boards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cTo all pool and dart players every Friday and Saturday we have tournaments come and join and visit us,\u201d said Chen, who used to run L.T. Travel Co. Ltd.

As for the name, he said he chose Black 8 Pool Bar because 8 is very lucky for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number 8 is lucky for me and I hope my bar business will become successful so that I can hire and help other people here on Saipan.\u201d<\/p>\n

It also offers the full bar experience with drinks galore like cocktail shots, beer, and any type of drinks\u2014alcoholic or otherwise\u2014and has a private room that can seat 20 people.

\u201cWe have free WiFi, free karaoke, and our beer has the lowest price on Saipan. Billiards and darts players also feel comfortable playing here because we are air-conditioned,\u201d said Chen.<\/p>\n

Aside from hosting billiards and electronic darts tournaments, Black 8 Pool Bar is also open for private parties for all occasions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThose having parties can order from other restaurants and they can bring the food here while playing billiards and darts. We accept all types of party occasions and they can bring their own food, but buy their drinks from us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chen said despite the fate of his two companies due to the pandemic, he\u2019s optimistic Black 8 Pool Bar will be able to succeed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was super affected\u00a0 by COVID-19\u00a0 and my business before was a tourist company and car rental. Now I hope this sports bar business will be more successful as this is also what I like to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
