{"id":388096,"date":"2023-03-27T06:02:41","date_gmt":"2023-03-26T20:02:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=388096"},"modified":"2023-03-27T06:02:41","modified_gmt":"2023-03-26T20:02:41","slug":"isaiah-kaithlyn-repeat-in-aquathlon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/isaiah-kaithlyn-repeat-in-aquathlon\/","title":{"rendered":"Isaiah, Kaithlyn repeat in Aquathlon"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_388074\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-388074\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/TRAC-pix-AleksenkoWB.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/TRAC-pix-AleksenkoWB.jpg\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-388074\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aleksenko<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Isaiah Aleksenko and Kaithlyn Chavez made their best amphibian impersonation by repeating as top finishers in the 8th Saipan Aquathlon and 10K Pathway Run held early Saturday morning along Beach Road and the waters off Kilili Beach in Oleai.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aleksenko continued to impress by coming in first overall with a time of 36:04, slashing more than 10 minutes from his time a year ago in the 2.5-kilometer run, 1km swim, and 2.5km run event. He beat Michael Miller and Moshe Sikkel who crossed the finish line in 38:31 and 41:14, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe weather was good, not too hot and not too cold. The course was better this time and the water was good too. Didn\u2019t really prepare and just came. The last run was the toughest part of the race,\u201d Alekenko, a 17-year-old junior at Marianas High School, said after the aquathlon, which he also won last year with a time of 46:25.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez, a 10th grader from Saipan International School, was first among the women in the Triathlon Association of the CNMI-organized event after tearing the tape in 42:32. She was followed by Jinie Thompson in 45:59 and Shawna Brennfleck in 47:45.<\/p>\n<p>The course today was actually good but the swimming was hard. The weather was perfect as it wasn\u2019t too hot and wasn\u2019t too windy so it was easier to run,\u201d said Chavez, who timed in at 53:44 last year.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_388076\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-388076\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/TRAC-pix-Chavezwb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/TRAC-pix-Chavezwb.jpg\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-388076\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chavez<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>Asked what was the toughest part of the Aquathlon, she said hands down it was the swimming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew a lot of people were stronger [swimmers] than me\u00a0 so I used all my advantage in running to get a big lead\u2026Usually I go hard in the first 2.5K and then in swimming I just do my pace and then the last 2.5K I go hard in the last half,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Topping their age respective groups were Matthew Szefler (51:12) and Maria Batallones (48:42) in the U20; Kerri Bauer (51:08) in the women 30-39; Travis Spaeth (47:36) and Robyn Spaeth (48:13) in the 40-49; Anthony Raho (49:48) and Yulia Aleksenko (57:09) in the 50-59; and Buboy Aguilar (52:04) in the men\u2019s 60-69.<\/p>\n<p>In the kids relay, Haole Pinoys Leilani Ruszala and Gabriel Walsh finished first with a time of 46:13, followed by the aptly named Amphibians of Lovel Spaeth and Scarlett Burrell, who came in a milliseconds later in 46:15.<\/p>\n<p>Results of the 10K run will be published in tomorrow\u2019s issue of <em>Saipan Tribune.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isaiah Aleksenko and Kaithlyn Chavez made their best amphibian impersonation by repeating as top finishers&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":15,"featured_media":388075,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[38],"class_list":["post-388096","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sports","tag-saipan-tribune"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/388096","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/15"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=388096"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/388096\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/388075"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=388096"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=388096"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=388096"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
