It was also 1:20 off my PR so yay!” she told Saipan Tribune in a social media message.

The 2022 NMSA Female Athlete of the Year said she’s just glad that she’s able to top the race despite not reaching her target of running the 10,000m in under 38 minutes.

“I just hope to keep improving from here and continue to learn and grow as not only a runner and athlete but as a person as well. Hopefully I can also continue to break records, whether that be my own personal ones or national ones,” she said.

Asked what she thinks of the Micronesian Games Council having to postpone this year’s quadrennial event in the Marshall Islands due to the facilities not being ready yet, Tan said it was a bit disappointing.

“I’m sad because they aren’t ready to host it this year and have to postpone it.”

CNMI national athletics coach Dr. Ron Snyder was ecstatic about the recent performance of the Saipan International School alumnae.

“Tania broke her own record by 1:20 minutes and it’s only the season opener. She is only 2 minutes off from the male record. Expect great things this season from her!” said the SIS headmaster.

Northern Marianas Athletics president Ramon Tebureb said the federation is extremely proud of Tan’s consistent performance, especially her setting a new record.

“I express NMA’s awesome thank you to her coaches and teammates.
