Shelton\u00a0will present the latest work being conducted by the Guam Legislature\u2019s Committee on the Advancement of Senior Citizens. Her presentation\u2014\u201cLegislative Updates from the Committee on the Advancement of Senior Citizens\u201d\u2014is part of the ongoing online support groups\u00a0for\u00a0family caregivers of persons with\u00a0dementia\u00a0being conducted by the Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program of the\u00a0University of Guam School of Health.<\/p>\n<p>Shelton\u00a0is\u00a0the legislative secretary of the 37th\u00a0Guam Legislature and chairwoman of the Committee on the Advancement of Senior Citizens. The\u00a0senator\u00a0will be available after her presentations to answer questions from the group participants.<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to tune in to\u00a0either\u00a0of the following sessions:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 6pm \u2013 8pm, Wednesday,\u00a0April\u00a019, or\u00a0\u2028\u2022 10am \u2013 noon, Saturday,\u00a0April\u00a022<\/p>\n<p>Also in\u00a0April, members of the community can receive training in how to care\u00a0for\u00a0a family member with\u00a0dementia\u00a0through the CARES\u00a0Dementia\u00a0Care\u00a0for\u00a0Families Training and Certification Program.\u00a0CARES\u00a0Dementia\u00a0Care\u00a0for\u00a0Families is an award-winning program developed\u00a0specifically\u00a0for\u00a0those caring\u00a0for\u00a0a loved one living at home. It has four modules:\u00a0(1)\u00a0Understanding Memory Loss; (2)\u00a0Living with\u00a0Dementia; (3) Using the CARES Approach; and (4) Keys to Success with CARES.\u00a0 Participants who complete the four modules will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible\u00a0for\u00a0CARES\u00a0Dementia\u00a0Certification.\u00a0The following sessions will be offered this\u00a0April:<\/p>\n<p>Module 1: Understanding Memory Loss<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 6pm to 8pm Wednesday,\u00a0April\u00a05<\/p>\n<p>Module 2: Living with\u00a0Dementia<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 10am to noon, Saturday,\u00a0April\u00a08<\/p>\n<p>Module 3: Using the CARES Approach<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 6pm to 8pm Wednesday,\u00a0April\u00a012<\/p>\n<p>Module 4: Keys to Success with CARES<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 10am to noon, Saturday,\u00a0April\u00a015<\/p>\n<p>Certification Exam<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 6pm to 8pm Wednesday,\u00a0April\u00a026, or<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 10am to noon, Saturday,\u00a0April\u00a029<\/p>\n<p>Participants can attend the Wednesday or Saturday sessions using the following Zoom links:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Wednesday sessions:\u00a0https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/92072878067<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Saturday sessions:\u00a0https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/91243370958<\/p>\n<p>Ongoing\u00a0dementia\u00a0support groups<\/p>\n<p>The training program is\u00a0part of the ongoing online support groups\u00a0for\u00a0family caregivers of persons with\u00a0dementia\u00a0being conducted by the Guam\/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program of the\u00a0UOG School of Health.\u00a0The support group sessions are held on Zoom on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings year-round.
