The Commonwealth Ports Authority has implemented a new policy allowing CPA staff who do the grunt work to evaluate their supervisors. <\/p>\n
The CPA board unanimously voted in a previous meeting to implement the supervisor evaluation policy. <\/p>\n
According to CPA chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds, CPA wants to give employees who do the grunt work a process to evaluate their supervisors in order to hold individuals accountable. <\/p>\n
\u201cInstead doing a top-down evaluation, what we\u2019re trying to do is do a bottom-up evaluation, giving employees who come on a day to day\u2014who do the grunt work basically\u2014to evaluate their supervisors,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Since the implementation of the new policy, CPA management has since been tasked to develop a platform in which these evaluations can be done online and anonymously. <\/p>\n
\u201cObviously there\u2019s going to be some discomfort, and some issues with being candid when you don\u2019t have system where you can do it anonymously. So, we\u2019ve tasked management with creating an online platform to be able to make those evaluations,\u201d said King-Hinds. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been talking about this for a while, since last year. This conversation started off last year but there was just a lot going on. So we are now tackling this issue,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n
King-Hinds clarified that this evaluation is not meant to get people fired, but to help supervisors grow and further develop. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a tool to put people down or put them out on the street. This is a tool to help them grow, develop, and hold ourselves accountable,\u201d she said. \u201cIf supervisors get a low evaluation, we\u2019re not here to put people down, we\u2019re here to grow and develop them and provide them the tools to grow. If they\u2019re not fit for the position, then maybe we can put them in an area where they\u2019re best suited so that they can feel good about the work they are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
