NMI Democrats gathered in person and online last April 15, 2023, for their general membership meeting, during which they elected a new Central Executive Committee.<\/p>\n

Jonathan P. Cabrera, who up until the general membership meeting served as party chair, reflected on the party\u2019s recent successes and losses in the general election, and emphasized that in good times and in challenging times, Democrats continue to lead.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the words of our party\u2019s platform, wherever they are, our Democrats \u2018are committed to uniting and healing our communities, rebuilding an economy that promotes shared prosperity, and restoring public trust in government,\u2019\u201d Cabrera said.<\/p>\n

Buoyed by the excitement in the room, Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (D-MP) moved that all those nominated for election to the CEC be voted in by vocal acclamation, and that is what transpired.<\/p>\n

In his brief remarks to the attendees, Sablan urged Democrats to elect more Democrats in the CNMI, and reminded them that, the delegate position \u201cneeds to remain in the Democratic Caucus.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that members of Congress were working hard to retake the U.S. House of Representatives, increase their majority in the Senate, and re-elect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n

Precinct 1 Rep. Diego Vincent F. Camacho (D-Saipan), who was present at the meeting, is an ex-officio member of the executive committee. \u201cI will continue to work with all of my colleagues as we do the work of the people,\u201d he said. \u201cSo long as we stay focused, we can accomplish great things, and I appreciate the leadership and support from Democrats like Kilili and our first governor, Dr. Carlos Camacho.\u201d<\/p>\n

Precinct 3 Rep. Denita Kaipat Yangetmai (D-Saipan) expressed appreciation to the party and to the party\u2019s leaders for supporting her re-election bid in the last election. \u201cI\u2019m grateful for the party\u2019s support because I now get to continue working for the people of Precinct 3, and I look forward to working with the new executive committee and officers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Camacho, an ardent Democrat and the first governor of the CNMI, expressed his gratitude for the members of the party who continue to keep the party alive. \u201cWe can elect Democrats, but we will need to work hard to get the job done,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Though their duties required their presence at other important community events, Sen. Edith Deleon Guerrero (D-Saipan), Sen. Celina Babauta (D-Saipan), Rep. Edwin Propst (D-Saipan), and Rep. Vicente Camacho (D-Saipan) sent their congratulations and best wishes to the party and to the new members of the Central Executive Committee.<\/p>\n

The newly elected Central Executive Committee will have its first organizational meeting at the end of the month and will elect party officers at that meeting.<\/p>\n
