(CONTRIBUTED PHOTO)

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is providing personnel support to the Guam Power Authority with the restoration efforts of the power distribution system following Typhoon Mawar.

This collaborative effort is the result of a mutual agreement between CUC and GPA for emergency assistance after a major disaster. CUC has been working closely with GPA even before the onset of Typhoon Mawar. Typhoon Mawar severely damaged the GPA power system affecting the power supply to over 52,000 customers in Guam.

CUC focused its efforts on the island of Rota first to restore power and water services to its customers. “With Rota’s utilities restored and operations back to normal, it is now time to lend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters [in] Guam, just as GPA extended their assistance to CUC after Typhoon Soudelor in 2015 and Super Typhoon Yutu in 2018, which destroyed the distribution system of Saipan and Tinian” said CUC acting executive director Betty Terlaje. “We recognize the importance of standing together with our sister utility companies in the Marianas and Pacific region during times of adversity.”

CUC board chair Janice A. Tenorio expressed her gratitude to the line crew and wishes them well on their endeavor. Tenorio also thanked Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang for their support.

Terlaje especially thanks GPA general manager John Benavente and the rest of the GPA family for their collaboration, hospitality, and for welcoming CUC’s line crew during this effort.

“Their support enables us to reciprocate the assistance we have received in the past, strengthening the bond between our utilities and reinforcing the spirit of unity in the face of natural disasters,” said a CUC news release that announced this collaboration. (PR)

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is providing personnel support to the Guam Power Authority with the…

[4
49,51
post-393048","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-cuc","tag-guam
["GET
