To help celebrate PH Independence Day here is a poem by Jos\u00e9 Rizal, a Philippine national hero whose writings influenced the rebellion that won independence for the Philippine archipelago. The Spanish government executed Dr. Rizal in Manila on Dec. 30, 1896.<\/p>\n
The theme of Rizal\u2019s Kundiman<\/em> is his intense love for his motherland. His words reflected his optimism that the Philippines would be freed from injustice and bondage.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Kundiman <\/em><\/strong>by Jose Rizal<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Now mute indeed are tongue and heart<\/p>\n love shies away, joy stands apart.<\/p>\n Neglected by its leaders and defeated,<\/p>\n The country was subdued and it submitted.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n But, O, the sun will shine again!<\/p>\n Itself the land shall disenchain;<\/p>\n And once more round the world<\/p>\n with growing praise<\/p>\n shall sound the name of the Tagalog race.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We shall pour out our blood in a great flood<\/p>\n to liberate the parent sod;<\/p>\n but \u2018til that day arrives for which we weep,<\/p>\n love shall be mute, desire shall sleep.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" June 12, 2023 is Philippine Independence Day; PH became independent in 1898.
