{"id":395729,"date":"2023-07-11T06:03:48","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T20:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=395729"},"modified":"2023-07-11T06:03:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T20:03:48","slug":"80-month-sentence-for-man-in-drug-trafficking-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/80-month-sentence-for-man-in-drug-trafficking-case\/","title":{"rendered":"80-month sentence for man in drug trafficking case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Drug-trafficking-pix-W.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-395731\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Drug-trafficking-pix-W-1024x531.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"498\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The court also ordered five years of supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee for Aguon, who was convicted of conspiracy to distribute 50 or more grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride.<\/p>\n<p>Defendants convicted of a federal drug offense may no longer qualify for certain federal benefits.<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office, which prosecuted the case, Aguon traveled to Guam from Stockton, California, in 2017.\u00a0 He began distributing methamphetamine from two Tumon hotel rooms to numerous persons.\u00a0 The investigation also revealed that Aguon received large sums of money in his personal accounts and returned the proceeds back to his California supplier using money remitter services.\u00a0 The drug transactions were facilitated using cell phones and Facebook messenger.\u00a0 Aguon sold over a pound of methamphetamine before the distribution was detected by law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sentence in this case sends a message of deterrence to those seeking to distribute drugs in Guam,\u201d said Shawn N. Anderson, who is the U.S. Attorney for the Districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.\u00a0 \u201cCombatting drug crime remains an important priority for our law enforcement partners.\u00a0 I applaud their efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Homeland Security Investigations] is committed to investigating drug traffickers who trade in methamphetamine,\u201d said John F. Tobon, special agent in charge, HSI Honolulu. \u201cCriminals like Aguon who distribute this poison will be investigated and prosecuted to stop the flow of dangerous drug into our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This investigation was conducted by the HSI and prosecuted by Rosetta L.
